[TF2] Jungle/Pyro Update Changes: The Calm

[Original Blog Post Here]

With the TF Team showing us a few of the balance changes they have planned for the next major update, and supporting people talk and give feedback, I thought it'd only be fair to give my two cents. It has been awhile since I've done anything actually TF2 here, and I need to get back to my roots. Just to mention, this is only the one's mentioned as of now. I might go back and update this, when the other weapons, are added, and we can compare.

Presentation:

This was honestly surprising to me, but they've actually given reasons and goals for the changes. It helps to actually share that, instead of making changes and us just wondering why.

The Panic Attack:

This is overall a welcome change. It allows it to be used immediately, instead of having to load shots before entering the fray. It also discourages constant spam, with the spread increasing after each shot. Think of it like a shotgun version of The Ambassador; pace your shots a bit. Speaking of which...

The Ambassador:

In short, no more spy snipers...like, sniping spies...I mean, spies that snipe. It's the least that could happen to it, even though I never really had a problem with it, other than the spies that thought they could snipe. Keyword is thought.

The Dead Ringer:

Ah, one of the big ones, even though it's such a small change. I honestly hate this thing, it is a crutch at it's worst, and a annoyance at it's best. That being said, this does feel a bit too harsh. I feel like the change should've been the other way around, where the only way to charge it, is by using dispensers and ammo kits (and the weapons that reward charge, but let's face it spies don't use them for that reason.). On a brighter note, maybe this'll make other people use the other watches.

Your Eternal Reward:

Ah, my favorite knife gets a buff, and one that keeps the challenging, but rewarding playstyle it promotes. The non-kill disguises take a bit more planning around (Especially if you're going to use the above), and the cloak drain means you'll probably spend more time visable, meaning you better practice your acting.

The Sandman:

With the amount of people that hate stun mechanics, you think they'd nerf this into the ground. Nope, just give stunned people the ability to still fire their weapon. In turn, the ball does more damage and regens faster, and it takes less time to trigger the max stun. If anything it's more of a buff.

Bonk! Atomic Punch:

Finally, a change I'm not too fond of. Bonk now seems like a neutral item: It helps you get past people, something you could do normally if you knew how to move around a map. I feel like the slowing effect isn't too bad around players...the biggest issues are Pyro's afterburn, and a sentry gun. Then again 5 seconds isn't that long, and you could also just not get hit. This is one that'll have to be played to understand, but overall I think this one was just unnecessary....unless it stops the stereotypical CTF scouts...

Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol:
"it seems that not taking falling damage ranks pretty low on the value scale for a Scout" -TF Team
That's not the issue I had with it. The issue was that originally that effect was passive meaning I didn't have to pull it out everytime I wanted to drop from a ledge. That's not including the fact that you took extra damage from all sources just for pulling it out. That's what makes this pocket pistol awful, as well as it being a pretty bad offensive weapon. With the balance in mind, it's the defensive alternative to the Winger, giving you health instead of more damage. potentially 63 health per clip isn't something to look over, and it's  firing speed....That's what it needed to begin with.

Crit-A-Cola:

Gun version of the Fan O' War...pretty much it. They also got rid of all the penalties for using it. This actually might be the death of the Cola...

The Atomizer:

Discount Market Gardner...While it is nice not having to take damage triple jumping, it kinda feels like they want there to be scouts jumping around people trying to mini-crit them...while doing less damage.

Flying Guillotine:
And with this change, the sandman/cleaver combo is dead...for the wrong reasons. Honestly, just make it so the only stun that deals crits are the stuns from the sandman. Otherwise, there's really no reward for using this combination...or the weapon in general.

B.A.S.E Jumper:
For some reason, people thought it was really hard to hit people using this...those people were just bad at the game. And you can't redeploy it mid-flight. That's an alright change.

Mantreads:
Soldier's Tide Turner. This is the item I'm looking forward to the most, mainly because I play roamer style. Oh yeah, and pyro's that like to M2 you don't do much.

Darwin’s Danger Shield:
A much needed nerf, but a very confusing change. I've never really known sniper's biggest enemy being pyros. It does assist in the spam that is the scorch shot...but it's still just a weird thing to see for sniper, of all classes.

The Razorback:

You can't be overhealed, and for some reason it recharges itself...You can tell this was a change meant for competitive...

The Vita-Saw:

In simple terms: Hit 4 times with this melee, to store 60% of a charge. You still have to have a charge to hold though. Also, notice how this doesn't say anything about removing the old downside of -10 of your max health... It's basically a wannabe Ubersaw, that doesn't sound like it can make the cut.

Crusader's Crossbow:

Hey people that only use the crossbow to build uber...stop it. You have a medi-gun for a reason.

All Miniguns:
You now have a reason to stay revved up all the time...that's it.

Gloves of Running Urgently/Eviction Notice:

This is actually a unique and interesting mechanic, that sounds like it works, trading health for speed, and getting it back when you switch off. And the best part, no more marked for death, and damage penalty. Heavy gets some love for once.

Fist of Steel:

You can't have a medic up your ass while using them. Chances are you didn't have one to begin with if you're using them though....least how I use them.

Rescue Ranger:

Healing a building now costs metal, though still not as much as a wrench. Really it's a needed nerf, and a rather small one.

Wanted Changes:
As the team has stated, this isn't all the changes (Hell, it's the PYRO update, and the class wasn't even shown on this list), so I wanted to give a few items I would love to see given some love:

  • Back Scatter: At least attempt to make it do what it's supposed to...
  • The Buff Banner: The other two banners have a passive effect that makes them viable, why not this one?
  • The Righteous Bison: C'mon, we all want the old bison back...
  • Scorch Shot: The spam...the spam...
  • Ullapool Caber: I miss the old caber...also Demo needs a melee weapon...and not the subclass.

Just a simple drawing of Myst's parents. They're known as "Wind Walkers" in Blue Oni tribe, which is the equivalent of a hippie. They travel in a caravan, play music, make incense (Which is something Myst knows how to do as well) and enjoy their lives free of strife. Not wanted to be weighed down by parenthood, they left her on another family's doorstep, where her sad tale starts.

So, earlier this week, there was a tornado warning when I had to work...we had torrential rain, and hard wind. Grocery carts bashed into me, and bruised both my legs, and made me unable to walk for awhile. I hate being immobile...so here's a pic of me immobile.

Allstar makes a Paetron

Hey guys, I have big news, I've decided to make a Paetron for myself! Of course, that means certain things will change around here:

 - Art activity here will be slowed to a crawl in order to provide content there, even though there's no difference other than a paywall.
 - Activity in general will be slowed as I will mostly work over there. You'll mainly get journals telling you to support me on Paetron.
 - When art actually gets posted here, it'll be low quality or censored with the Paetron logo.
 - As stated before, there's no difference in the artwork made, even though I could make it worth the pledges you guys are giving.

...In all seriousness, this wasn't meant to be a April Fools' joke. This is actually how I feel about DA artists on Paetron. Timing was just right.
